How-to import assets

Introduction

Whenever you would like to create a large set of Assets, it’s easier to use the excel import function described in this article. You can only import all values for one “Assignment state“ per import, so you have to create a single Excel file for every “Assignment state“. In this manual we will show, how to import the data for the asset attributes. For this we take the attributes TelephoneNumber and Carrier as an example.

Step 1 - Excel file

In the first step you need to create an excel file. You have to create as many columns as the amount of Attributes that are configured for this asset type.

The columns do not need to have the same name as the attributes. You will reference them (attribute → Excel column) in a later step.

If you want to import values, which should already have an existing assignment, you have to create a column with an identifier for the object with the assignment. For example the SID for an active directory identity.

  • Column for the values for attribute TelephoneNumber

  • Column for the values for attribute Carrier

Now fill in all the values for the attributes in the specified column you just created before.

Example:

Telephone number

Carrier

Telephone number

Carrier

+41 79 888 77 87

Swisscom

+41 79 777 88 78

Sunrise

Step 2 - Import

In this step we have to define what we want to import and from where. We have to execute this step in the Web GUI. Navigate to the asset, in which you want to import the data, in the “Asset Management“. Open it by clicking on the asset. Click on the “Import“-button in the right top corner of the detail page of the asset.

Now you can fill in the following information for the import:

  • Asset Type Asset Type

  • Asset Group From which asset group should the import be

  • Upload Excel File

  • Assignment state Free, assigned, external assigned

  • Attribute TelephoneNumber Column “Telephone number” of the excel sheet

  • Attribute Carrier Column “Carrier” of the excel sheet

  • …..

If you filled in every information above, you are ready to start the import.
