Introduction
The organization unity type can be used to configure attributes that can be entered for an organization unit. Similar to a core identity type an attribute mapping can be used. These attribute values can be used in the identity provisioning configuration but only the main employment values can be used.
The feature that the organization units can be built like a tree allows using the attribute values of the parent organization unit in the attribute mapping, so an attribute hierarchy can be built.

Organization unit object type
Version < 7
Up to version 6 the organization unit type simply defined the attributes of given type. Additionally there is a distinction between an organizational unit and a position but that information is stored on the organization unit.
Version >= 7
Starting with version 7 there is also an organization unit object type that can be used to identify the type as one of three object types:

Attribute Mappings
You can assign attributes to an organization unit type and configure mappings that reference other attributes. If an attribute is not present on the current object, the value will be resolved upwards along the current organizational unit structure.
